WHOIS and RDAP Services

The NGO.US Registry provides domain information lookup services through both WHOIS and RDAP protocols. These services allow you to retrieve registration information about a .ngo.us domain, including registration dates, nameservers, and registrar information.

WHOIS Service

WHOIS (pronounced "who is") is a query and response protocol that is widely used for querying databases that store information about registered domains.

Server Information

WHOIS Server: whois.ngo.us

Using WHOIS

Command Line Usage

You can query the WHOIS service from your command line using:

whois -h whois.ngo.us example.ngo.us

Replace example.ngo.us with the domain you want to look up.

Web Interface

A web-based WHOIS interface is also available at: https://whois.ngo.us

Simply enter the domain name you wish to query and click "Search".

WHOIS Output Example

Domain Name: EXAMPLE.NGO.US
Registry Domain ID: D12345-NGO-US
Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.registrar.example
Registrar URL: http://www.registrar.example
Updated Date: 2025-02-15T09:43:21Z

RDAP Service

RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the newer, standardized replacement for WHOIS. It provides structured data in JSON format and supports internationalized domain names.

Server Information

RDAP Server: rdap.ngo.us

Using RDAP

RESTful API

RDAP is a RESTful service that can be accessed via HTTP:

https://rdap.ngo.us/domain/example.ngo.us

Replace example.ngo.us with the domain you want to look up.

Command Line Usage

You can use tools like curl to query the RDAP service:

curl https://rdap.ngo.us/domain/example.ngo.us

RDAP Output Example

RDAP returns data in JSON format, which is more structured and machine-readable than WHOIS:

"objectClassName": "domain",
"handle": "D12345-NGO-US",
"ldhName": "example.ngo.us",

Usage Limitations

  • Rate Limiting: Both services employ rate limiting to prevent abuse. If you make too many requests in a short period, your access may be temporarily restricted.
  • Privacy: In accordance with our privacy policy, certain information may be redacted from public queries.
  • Bulk Access: Bulk access to registration data is not permitted without prior authorization.

Programmatic Access

If you need to integrate WHOIS or RDAP lookup functionality into your applications, we recommend using the RDAP service as it provides structured data that is easier to parse and process programmatically.

For high-volume or specialized uses, please contact our support team to discuss your requirements.

Terms of Use

Use of the WHOIS and RDAP services is subject to the following conditions:

  1. You agree not to use the data for unsolicited marketing purposes.
  2. You agree not to use the data to enable high-volume, automated, electronic processes that apply to the registry.
  3. You agree not to use the data in contravention of any applicable laws or regulations.

Violation of these terms may result in termination of access to the services.
